The city ordinance prevents pit bulls and Staffordshire terriers from living inside city limits. A number of cities have bans like this.
But some are questioning the ban, saying the breed of dog is not the issue.
"I don't believe people can blame the dog," Jim Comyers said. "It's the owner that's responsible for that dog and the upbringing."
Others concurred, saying a breed-specific ban isn't fair.
"I don't think a pit bull is a vicious dog. They're a normal dog. It's just how you raise them," Tim Maxon said.
Supporters of the ban say there has not been a major dog attack in Wellsville since the ban was enacted.
Lynda Swafford said she would fear a dog attacking her children when they were playing outside, and she believes the ban should remain in place.
Kansas Rep. Kevin Jones, R-Wellsville, said the ban singles out certain breeds, but he said he believes it keeps residents safe. He said he opposes doing away with the ban.
The council will discuss the ban at their Wednesday night meeting.

So lift the ban. There will be dead and maimed children/adults/pets within a year. Stupid just cannot be fixed. It's unfortunate the rest of us have to live with these "it's not fair" whiners and the idiot PC politicians that listen to them.
