KANSAS -- A young girl was rushed to an area hospital after being bitten by a dog in south Wichita.
It happened around 3 pm. in the 2400 block of South Mead, near Pawnee.
According to Wichita Police, a three-year-old girl was bitten on the ear. The toddler was rushed to a local hospital, but her injuries are not considered life-threatening, Capt. Doug Nolte said.
The dog was taken by animal control, but it's unclear who owns the animal.
Those who live nearby say they heard the child's screams.
"They were horrifying, you could tell she was really hurt and something bad had happened," Kathy Callison.
Callison says the screams came from her next-door neighbor's backyard. The neighbors quickly rushed in to whisk the little girl in the house.
"I think it took them a little while to realize what had happened," Callison said.
KAKE News spoke to the little girl's father and uncle. Both declined requests for an on-camera interview.
But they did say the child was improving and that the dog was going to be put down.
