NORTH CAROLINA -- A Fletcher man was charged with felony cruelty to animals Saturday after officers learned he may have shot and killed a dog on Ambrosia Lane.
Officers with the Fletcher Police Department were dispatched to Ambrosia Lane for an “anonymous complaint of a canine being shot” at 9:59 p.m. Friday. When officers arrived, however, several people at the scene denied any knowledge of shots being fired or any animal being injured or killed, according to a news release from Fletcher Police on Monday.
Witnesses changed their tune on Saturday.
“Officers responded again to the same area on Saturday afternoon and determined that a canine had been shot the previous night. Several of the same persons on Saturday admitted to having knowledge of the canine being shot, even though these persons told officers the previous evening they knew nothing about the incident,” according to the release.
After completing numerous interviews and collecting evidence, police arrested Ricky Weldon Baldwin, 40, of 147 Ambrosia Lane. Baldwin was given a $3,000 secured bond by a magistrate and has since been released from custody.
The Henderson County Sheriff's Office and the District Attorney's Office assisted in the investigation.
