NEW YORK -- A LaFayette man who was convicted in the 2006 death of a State Trooper who was chasing him has been indicted on animal cruelty charges.
Court documents from James Carncross’ March arrest indicated that he “kicked” and “struck” a Dachshund that ultimately died.
Police arrested Carncross of Apulia Road after the 3-year-old dog’s death at a home in the town of Pompey on Friday, March 7.
He was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a class E felony, in connection to the death of the Dachshund named “Buffy.”
Carncross was convicted in December of 2006 of aggravated criminally negligent homicide and reckless driving.
He led New York State Trooper Craig Todeschini on a high-speed chase. Todeschini died when his vehicle crashed during the chase on April 23, 2006.
Carncross was released from prison on January 2.
He had been in prison since June 23, 2006.
His arrest on animal cruelty charges was a violation of his probation.
Carncross was arraigned in the Town of LaFayette Court and taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center without bail.
