"Sometimes you feel like a nut.... sometimes you don't"

NEW MEXICO -- Police say an Albuquerque man was severely bitten when he tried to stop an attack on his daughter by the family's dog.

Police spokesman Simon Drobik says officers responded to a report Saturday of a canine biting someone at the home.

Authorities found an 8-year-old girl who had been bitten in the face and the father injured as well.

According to police, the dog bit the man's testicles when he attempted to help his daughter. He was immediately taken to a hospital.

The girl was treated at the scene and released to her mother.

Drobik says the 90-pound pit bull mix belonged to a relative who recently passed away.

Police say the dog was removed by animal control, which will hold the canine for 10 days.

The family must decide if they want to keep the dog or put it up for adoption.
