Waverly woman charged with animal cruelty

NEW YORK -- A Waverly woman will be in Horseheads Town Court next week to answer an animal cruelty charge, Elmira City Animal Control said.

Patricia A. Olmstead was charged Thursday by animal control officers with one count of animal cruelty for leaving her dog confined in a car while she shopped at Walmart in Horseheads, animal control said.

When officers arrived, the car's interior temperature exceeded 115 degrees, animal control said.

Olmstead is due to appear in Horseheads Town Court on Aug. 14, animal control said.
