OHIO -- A 31-year-old Cleveland woman pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in the starvation deaths of her two dogs.
Amber Kinsey, of Crossburn Avenue, was sentenced Wednesday by Cleveland Municipal Judge Ronald Adrine to six days in jail and five years of probation, when she can't have pets and the Cleveland Animal Protective League can randomly visit her home.
Humane officers found the dogs' bodies in Kinsey's trash cans in April 2013 after her landlord reported the deaths.
The two pit bulls, Butter, 2, and Nana, 6 months old, were extremely emaciated, APL attorney DanaMarie Pannella said.
"Kinsey told humane officers that the dogs had been ill for a few days before they died because they might have drank paint thinner, but their body conditions due to lack of adequate food, were simply insufficient to support life," Pannella said.
