WISCONSIN -- A woman lied about a dog bite incident to protect the animal's owner, police say, and has been issued an 'interference with animal control officer' citation.
The woman changed her story about where her 18-year-old son was bitten after police asked for the public's help finding the animal through reports in Post-Crescent Media and other outlets.
On Monday, Appleton police said they were seeking the Rottweiler and owner that bit a man on the head near E. Eldorado Street and N. Union Street.
On Tuesday, police said the 18-year-old was bitten at a different location, and the woman who reported the bite fabricated the story in an attempt to protect the dog owner.
The Rottweiler's owner did not ask the woman to lie to police.
Police issued an "animal attacking without provocation" citation to the dog's owner.
