OHIO -- An Ohio woman arrested last week after police found 22 cats locked in her travel trailer at a campground near Morenci was arraigned Tuesday in Lenawee County District Court.
Mary Christine Chase, 64, of Archbold, Ohio, faces a felony count of cruelty to 10 or more animals. She remains free on personal recognizance.
Chase is accused of failing to provide adequate care for the 22 cats seized Aug. 27 by a Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department animal control officer. The cats were placed at the Addison Veterinary Clinic pending the outcome of the prosecution. Reports allege the cats were malnourished and in poor health.
A sheriff’s department report said Chase had been camping with the cats in her trailer for two weeks.
An animal control officer searched the trailer after receiving a complaint about an odor. The 30-foot trailer was reportedly contaminated with feces and urine.
