KENTUCKY -- Lexington Police say an officer had to shoot a dog early Wednesday morning after it attacked him.
It happened around midnight at a home on Whitney Avenue.
Police were originally called to the home for a report of a disorder.
When they arrived on the scene, they say a 100-pound German Shepard ran out of the home and charged at an officer several times.
According to police, the officer made several attempts to get the dog away from him, but the dog ended up biting his leg.
"The dog charged at the officer. The officer was forced to shoot the canine to protect himself," said Lt. Clayton Roberts, with Lexington Police.
The dog did not survive.
Police say no charges were filed against the dog's owners.
The officer suffered a minor injury.
