More serious charges against Greenville man after starving dog dies

SOUTH CAROLINA -- Charges against a Greenville man were upgraded after a dog he is suspected of abusing ended up dying.

Anthony Varcadipane is now charged with felony animal cruelty, as well as misdemeanor restraining a dog in a cruel manner.


The 25-year-old man was originally arrested on August 29th on misdemeanor charges after Greenville Animal Protective Services found a dog near death behind a home on South Sylvan Drive
.
Police say the animal had not been fed in some time, and was tied up with a large heavy chain. It ended up passing away later that same weekend.

A police spokeswoman said the District Attorney's Office agreed to upgrade the cruelty charge to a felony.

Varcadipane was jailed on a $25,000 bond
