Neighbors react to deadly dog attack

WISCONSIN -- It’s a tragedy in a small Wisconsin town. A dog attacked and killed a seven year old boy.

The child's mother tried to save the boy's life.

A dog [attacked] and killed a 7 year old in the town of Hustisford. Neighbors tell TODAY’S TMJ4 their hearts goes out to the family.

The first thing that Michelle Krahn heard were the sirens.

"We walked out and there were just emergency vehicles everywhere," explains Krahn.

Michelle says the couple who ran the kennel were always kind and friendly to her and her husband Matt.

"We’ve never had an incident there,” recalls Krahn. “They're great. We've always heard such great things about them. My heart goes out to the family of the child and the owners of the kennel.”

First responders tried to save the child, but he died from his injuries. The news is especially difficult for Michelle, who's a dog owner, and a mom of two.

“I was just horrified because I have a little boy who'll be 7 next month and I have a 5 year old, so I was horrified," says Krahn.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office isn't saying what kind of dog attacked the child, or if it was a family pet. The dog is in quarantine at the Dodge County Humane Society. They’re waiting to hear from law enforcement on what their next step is.
