Early morning deer rescue

GEORGIA -- Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Animal Control officer Christina Sutherlin comforted a 6-point buck that was tranquilized so that it could be rescued from traffic this morning.

The deer had been injured and was bleeding from the mouth when Central Precinct Patrol officers trapped it in a fenced yard near East 37th and Bull streets about 8 a.m.

The deer was taken to the SCMPD Animal Shelter where he was placed in triage, given an antibiotic injection and tick preventative. He will be provided medical treatment in hopes of returning to the wild.
