MICHIGAN -- A 14A-1 District Court judge decided Tuesday that there was enough probable cause to send to trial a 28-year-old Milan woman accused of keeping 15 dogs in unsanitary conditions.
Robin Nix kept the dogs at her home in the 100 block of Hurd Street in Milan where she claimed to be running a rescue shelter, according to Matt Schaecher, Chief Operations Officer with the Humane Society of Huron Valley.
I believe she was running a rescue called Solo Rescue aka Solo Rescue and Training.
Animal cruelty investigators from HSHV executed a search warrant at the home in August. The investigators discovered one adult and 14 puppies living in deplorable conditions, Schaecher said.
The adult was a poodle mix and the puppies were pit bull and lab mixes, he added.
"They were living in urine and feces," Schaecher said. "Their fur was matted and caked with (it)."
Three of the dogs were crammed into a cage big enough for one.
"The dogs were unable to stand," Schaecher said.
All 15 dogs were seized by HSHV. The adult dog is in foster care due to neurological issues, but the puppies were made available for adoption. Most of them have been adopted by now, Schaecher said.
Nix was arraigned Oct. 30 on charges of animal cruelty, 10 or more animals, and animal cruelty, 4-10 animals, both felonies.
Judge Joseph Burke found there was probable cause to bind the charges up to the circuit court after hearing testimony from Schaecher and other HSHV officials at a preliminary examination Tuesday.
Nix remains free on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond. A booking photo was not available from the Washtenaw County Jail.
