Cops still mulling charges in Snapchat dog attack

MASSACHUSETTS -- Norfolk police said yesterday they haven’t made any decisions on whether to charge a group of teens at the center of an animal cruelty probe sparked by a heinous Snapchat video showing a dog being hog-tied, pelted with a soda can and engulfed in marijuana smoke.

Authorities, including Animal Control Officer Hilary Cohen, executed a search warrant at a Grove Street home Tuesday night, when they seized the innocent Jack Russell terrier named Charlie.

The Herald reported yesterday that classmates who received the video were the first to alert police to the 32-second clip, which has sparked an investigation into the group of teens, including Charlie’s owner.

Sarah Gray, a Norfolk police dispatcher, said yesterday that cops did not have any updates on the investigation.

“There’s been no decision on charges,” she said.

The case has sparked an outpouring of support for the pup on Facebook, where Cohen yesterday said the response has been overwhelming.

“Just wanted to update the world since we’ve been working double time here in light of events. I’m pretty sure the whole eastern half of the country has called to talk about the Jack Russell terrier,” she wrote on Facebook, adding that she’s been asked about the dog’s health, the investigation and whether Charlie can be adopted — questions she cannot yet answer. “Please be patient while the investigation is ongoing.”
