Dog owner, Nathaniel Lance, could face charges for abandonment

IDAHO -- A dog owner who abandoned a Great Dane last month could face charges.

The Payette County Sheriff's Office reports that on Nov. 22 some citizens found the dog named "Gunner" in the Big Willow and Stone Quarry area. They posted information about Gunner on Facebook and were able to locate the person who abandoned the dog, as well as his previous owner.

Gunner was emaciated and suffered from an ear infection. He was taken to a veterinarian for treatment and has since been returned to his previous owner. Gunner is expected to the make a full recovery.

The dog's last owner, Nathaniel Lance, told Deputy Steve Burgess that the dog was older that he thought when he got it, had some medical problems and he could not afford veterinarian care. He left Gunner in the area of Fetch This Kennel hoping that they would catch Gunner and provide care for him.

The investigation is complete and the case has been forwarded to the Payette County prosecutor for review. Lance could face charges.
