Four dogs rescued from horrific living conditions in Paterson

NEW JERSEY -- Four dogs have been rescued from horrific living conditions in Paterson.

The city's animal control officer says the dogs' owner died about a month ago, and that the building's landlord fed them while waiting for the next of kin.

When no one came forward, he called the animal control office Tuesday.

The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge says the dogs are in such terrible condition that two were immediately hospitalized.

One of the dogs has mammary tumors that are oozing blood and the other is so badly matted that he will need to be sedated in order to be groomed.

The other two dogs are being cared for at the refuge facility in Oakland, N.J.

These poodles, originally found terribly matted, have now been groomed. They are currently under the care of Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge. WABC reporter Josh Eineger.

Their care will cost thousands.

Donations can be to the The Betty Lou Fund online or by mailing a check (with "Betty Lou Fund" written in the memo section) to:
