LCSO investigating discovery of dead horses

SOUTH CAROLINA -- The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident in which authorities discovered dead and malnourished horses at a property in Waterloo.

According to a report from the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to assist Laurens County Animal Control with a case of animal cruelty.

Animal control was initially called to the property on Dec. 12. There were three sick horses and a donkey that appeared malnourished as well as a fourth horse that appeared to be malnourished. The three sick horses and the donkey were removed from the property.

When animal control returned this past Monday, the fourth horse was dead.

According to the report, the property owner told deputies that the man who had been living there had been buying horses.

The property owner also took deputies to a ravine where the remains of dead horses had been deposited. Deputies found a large number of dead horses in the ravine.

No arrests have been made and the incident remains under investigation by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.
