IDAHO -- A 5-year-old girl was admitted to a local hospital Wednesday afternoon after a family friend's dog suddenly attacked her, biting her in the face and neck, Garden City police report.
The girl and her parents visited the home on Smoky Way about 1:20 p.m., and they were well acquainted with the dog, Lt. Tom Patterson said.
"Upon being invited inside, the child was attacked without provocation," Patterson said. Such attacks, when there is apparently no action or appearance to trigger the dog's aggression, are unusual, he said.
The girl suffered bites near her eye on her neck near her jawline, Patterson said. She was taken to the hospital by family members and was reportedly stable at the hospital, he said, adding that he didn't know whether her injuries would require surgery.
The dog, described as a pit bull mix, is in quarantine for the next 10 days at the city animal shelter, Patterson said. He said the dog's owner has been "very cooperative."
The incident remains under investigation, and it is too early to say whether any citation or other action against the owner and dog will be taken, Patterson said. Patterson said the Police are investigating the attack.
