Mayor Timmy Lemoine tells our news partner KALB-TV that the village plans to enact a replacement. He says that -- like a state law -- it will call for taking owners to court rather than immediately confiscating rottweilers and pit bulls.
Mayor Timmy Lemoine
He says People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals threatened to shut down the village if it didn't repeal the ordinance. It called for taking the two breeds to a veterinarian for "further disposition" if owners did not get rid of them.
Lemoine says the village would not have killed the dogs, just kept them at a shelter until the owners found somewhere else for them to live.
