N.H. man broke into neighbor’s apartment to strangle barking dog: police

NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Police arrested a man Friday after he allegedly tried to strangle a neighbor's dog.

Just before 10 a.m. Friday, police said Roger Pelletier forced his way into a neighbor's apartment at the Portsmouth Apartments on Rockland Street, intending to harm the neighbor's dog.

Police said Pelletier was upset with the constant barking from Oreo, a Shih-Tzu. Pelletier allegedly tried to strangle the animal and then the owner and Pelletier fought.

Police said Oreo bit Pelletier several times, but the dog survived and will be examined by a veterinarian. The owner was not harmed.

Police arrested Pelletier, 50 from Portsmouth, and charged him with burglary, cruelty to animals and simple assault.

Pelletier is being held on $5,000 Cash and $5,000 personal recognizance bail and officials transported him to the Rockingham County Correctional Facility.
