Updated with photos: Paterson owner of two mistreated dogs pleads guilty to animal cruelty

NEW JERSEY -- A city man has pleaded guilty to mistreating two dogs, one of which was found dead by animal control officers.

Lanier Moore of East 28th Street was sentenced in November to pay $1,000 in fines after admitting to a charge of animal cruelty.

Tipped off a call from neighbors in October, authorities found a dead female dog and an injured male pit bull in mud in Moore’s yard, said John DeCando, the city’s animal control officer.

The male dog, named Dino by animal rescue workers, suffered from arthritis and skin infections. He was adopted a few weeks later, DeCando said.

“The good thing that came out of this whole thing is, yes, we did lose an animal, but the other one is doing fabulous,” he said.
