Missouri: FIFTY Jack Russell terriers removed from property

MISSOURI - Nearly 50 Jack Russell terriers have been removed from a southern Missouri property, after the Humane Society of Missouri cited what it called "life-threatening" conditions for the dogs.

The society's Animal Cruelty Task Force removed the dogs Wednesday from a property in Washington County. The society says there was no running water.

Investigators say more than 30 of the terriers were living in a trailer, while others lived in outdoor pens that lacked food or water. At least one of the dogs is blind, and others are thin.

The dogs were taken to Humane Society of Missouri headquarters in St. Louis for care. A custody hearing will be Jan. 30 in Potosi. An investigation continues, and it isn't clear if charges will be filed.
