NEW YORK -- A Chemung County grand jury has indicted a Corning man on two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, in connection with alleged incidents in September and November in the Village of Elmira Heights.
Erik Miller, 28, of East Fifth Street in Corning, intentionally caused serious physical injury to a companion animal by inflicting blunt force trauma on a 7-year-old pug mix dog, the indictment states.
The dog was treated for injuries at Lake Road Animal Hospital and then taken to Cornell for further treatment before being taken to the Elmira animal shelter, police said.
As a result of Miller's repeated kicks, the King Charles cavalier pug mixed breed dog suffered blunt-force trauma, including multiple rib fractures, severe pulmonary contusions and subcutaneous emphysema.
Miller faces up to two years behind bars if he is convicted on the animal abuse charges, according to Elmira animal control.
