Firefighters rescue dog and puppy in Miami, Oklahoma, blaze

OKLAHOMA -- A house fire here Tuesday that killed several puppies may have started because of a heat lamp in a doghouse, investigators said.

Firefighters were sent to the Miami residence about 1:30 p.m. An official said the fire may have started in a doghouse with a heat lamp in it. The doghouse was next to the home.

The residents of the house escaped injury, Miami Fire Department officials said, adding that firefighters were able to save a 6-week-old puppy and the dog’s mother. Seven other puppies died in the fire.

The house, in the 2200 block of A Street NE, was heavily damaged.
