PENNSYLVANIA -- A Luzerne County man is facing an animal cruelty charge after humane society officers said a horse starved to death in his care.
65-year-old Edward Balliet of Drums is facing one count of cruelty to animals after he failed to provide enough food for a horse at a boarding facility on Deep Hole Road in Butler Township.
Members of Tracey's Hope, an animal rescue group, said they would like to see more charges filed in connection to a second horse that died at the same facility, as well as a third horse that appeared to be malnourished.
The SPCA of Luzerne County is requesting over $600 in restitution to cover the costs of testing and transporting the dead horse.
Members of Tracey's Hope are organizing a bank account to help the SPCA.
