As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday Jan. 21, bidding for the rug was at $9,650. The auction is scheduled to end at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
The rug features the misprint on the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office seal. The rug was placed in the lobby of the agency's administration office in Largo.
The misprint made national headlines after it was discovered.
The sheriff's office decided to put the rug up for auction after the story received national attention. They humorously called it a "doggone" rug when announcing the auction.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit the rescue group "Canine Estates Inc" in Palm Harbor.
The sheriff's office paid $500 for the rug. The opening bid was $100.
