UNITED KINGDOM -- A mother has criticised the police after ‘they refused to investigate’ a vicious dog attack on her four-year-old daughter because the animal jumped into her car.
Samantha Anderson-Graham, 38, was driving along a country lane in Bures St Mary, Suffolk, on September 14 when she saw a terrier in the middle of the road which failed to move when she beeped her horn.
Without an owner in sight, she opened her door to shoo the dog to safety but it leapt into the car and pounced on her daughter Tilly, four, mauling her arms, legs and face.
Mrs Anderson-Graham was hurt as she frantically tried to protect her daughter who was bitten up to 25 times, with her 12 year-old son Joe also witnessing the terrifying attack in the car.
Samantha managed to get the animal out and then reported the attack to police but was disappointed when they ‘dismissed the case’.
‘How can they say that a dog mauling a four-year-old girl is not a case? I’ve lost all faith in the police. It’s disgusting,’said the mum-of-four.
‘It was absolutely awful and the fact I had to lodge an official complaint to get it investigated is disgusting.’
It was only after determined Mrs Anderson-Graham sent letters, photographs and then lodged an official complaint against Suffolk Constabulary that police even recorded the crime.
Gamekeeper Trevor Edwards, 50, was eventually charged and he pleaded guilty to two counts of owning a dog which caused injury while dangerously out of control.
