OKC Horse Left For Dead Now Making A Miraculous Recovery

OKLAHOMA -- A horse found nearly dead by Oklahoma City Animal Control ten days ago has gained international attention while he makes a miraculous recovery.

Animal control found the horse that's been renamed 'Rudy' back on Jan. 2.

Animal control said they found the horse tangled up in barbed wire fencing covered in blood and mud. They said the horse's owner had called out animal control to pick up what the owner called a “dead animal.”

A sheriff's department spokesperson told News 9 it will be at least another week until animal cruelty charges will be filed against the owner.

Rudy was taken to Blaze's Tribute Equine Rescue in Jones, where he became their property. Blaze's Tribute co-owner Natalee Cross said a You Caring account has raised more than $20,000 for Rudy's care in the past ten days.

She said he's become an international star. “We've gotten messages from New Zealand, South Africa, London, gosh everywhere. It's been overwhelming,” she said.

Dr. Charlotte Kin said Rudy is well on his way to recovering from grave injuries, including a fractured skull. She said both of the horse's ears were torn off by other animals that attacked Rudy while he lay critically injured and dying in the mud.
