Police arrest Laurel County man accused of neglecting injured cow

KENTUCKY --  Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man they say left an injured cow on his property for days, without helping it.

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office charged 66-year-old Sherman Jones with animal cruelty.

Deputies say the cow, which Jones owned, was injured, and not able to walk or stand.

Deputies claim Jones left the cow in a ditch for three days, in below freezing temperatures, without getting the cow help, or feeding it.

According to deputies, Jones told them his tractor broke down, so he couldn't help it. However, deputies believe Jones had plenty of time to find another way to get the cow help.

Deputies also charged Jones with disorderly conduct. They say while a deputy was on the scene, Jones became agitated with the deputy.

Deputies say Jones also caused annoyance and concern to people who were on the scene, trying to help the injured cow.
