Police seize 6 former racehorses living in poor conditions

FLORIDA -- Six starved ex-racehorses were seized by police and turned over to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals after a caller reported that the animals were in bad shape.

The horses range in age from 3 to 10 and are in varying states of health, according to SPCA officials.
One of the six horses will have to be put down due to a broken pelvis.

 

  

 

The horses were living in feces, had not been let out of the stables and were so hungry that they chewed away at their wooden enclosures, officials said.

 

 

The owner of the horses has been arrested and given a notice to appear in court.

Laurie Waggoner, South Florida SPCA's director of ranch operations, said it will take several weeks to rehabilitate the animals and find them homes.
