IOWA -- Two Mason City men were seriously injured in an attack by a pit bull Tuesday evening.
According to Mason City police, officers were called to 215 South Monroe at 9:13 p.m. There, they found Dallas Lewis, 19, and Kyde Ratliff, 50, had both suffered serious injuries to the arm, hands, and face.
Both lived in the home with the dog, which was owned by Lewis. The pit bull had a current city license and rabies vaccination.
Police say the dog was injured as people in the home attempted to get it to stop attacking. Officers took the animal to the Mason City Animal Shelter where it died.
Lewis and Ratliffe were in fair condition Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
