Woman Arrested in Carmichael Dog Torture Case

CALIFORNIA -- A 23 year old woman was recently arrested in connection to two separate incidents that occurred in late December involving the theft and torture of dogs in the Carmichael area, according to an official press release issued by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

Kayla Lynn Wright, 23, was reportedly arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on Wednesday, January 7, for charges relating to the grand theft of an animal and felony animal torture.

According to Sac Sheriff, in the early morning hours of Friday, December 26, a resident of Cardinal Court in Carmichael reported finding a deceased dog in the garbage receptacle, with what appeared to be a cord tied around its neck.

Then at 7 pm that same evening, a resident in the same area reported his two small dogs had gone missing from his front yard. One of the dogs reportedly returned to its owner and had a cord tied around its neck and tape on its mouth. The second dog was later found unharmed.

Sheriff’s detectives were able to locate surveillance video in the neighborhood that corroborated the theft of two small dogs and identified a female in the footage, who was later identified as Wright.

Further investigation reportedly established Wright to also be responsible for the deceased dog found in the garbage receptacle. She is currently listed as a transient of the Sacramento area.

Wright has been arrested several times in the past year for drug related offenses.

On September 17, while living at a home in Citrus Heights near the Crosswoods Park, she was charged with theft, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, driving without a license, and failure to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge. She was arrested in June for drug possession as well, and for the same charge in April while living in North Highlands, near Highlands High School.
