GEORGIA -- A Savannah man pleaded guilty today to two counts of aggravated cruelty to an animal, one count of making false statements, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
James Wrenn, who was 70 at the time of his arrest, was charged in June of 2012 after fatally shooting a dog he says attacked him.
It happened in the Hollow Oak Campground on Fort Argyle Road.
The dog's owner told police the dog was tethered outside his father's mobile home while Wrenn did some electrical work nearby.
Wrenn claimed the dog tried to bite a neighbor, then knocked him down and bit him as he fought the dog off.
Police say he got a gun from his truck and shot at the dog nine times...hitting it at least twice.
Judge Louisa Abbott sentenced Wren to ten years total – five years on probation, five years suspended.
So basically NO prison time. He's on unsupervised probation for five years. Big deal. People will not take animal cruelty seriously until people start getting prison time. This guy was already a convicted felon in possession of a firearm... thanks Judge Abbott.
