NORTH CAROLINA -- Three of four people attacked by a pit bull in High Point Friday were sent to the hospital because of their injuries.
The attack happened near the 100 block of Northgate Court at 3:12 p.m.
When officers arrived they located four victims, two of whom were adults and two of whom were children.
High Point Police said the girls were 7 and 10 years old. At least one of the girls had injuries to her face.
“I think it’s always a serious situation when you’re dealing with kids,” said Captain Anthro Gamble, of the High Point Police Department.
A witness said a female adult suffered some pretty serious injuries while the other adult suffered minor injuries that were treated on scene.
The dog escaped from a backyard on Hedgecock Road. It was captured as in now quarantined at a veterinarian’s office according to High Point police.
Neighbors said they’ve always worried about what the pit bull might do if it escaped.
“We always hear those dogs back there; they’ve been penned up, I don’t think they ever get walked,” said Michelle Biddy. “We have complained about them, some other neighbors have complained about them in the past, but we’ve never really had them running loose.”
The incident is under investigation by animal control and lawyers for the police. Once the case is complete and given to the district attorney’s office it will then be determined what will happen to the dog.
Biddy said she hopes the attack is something the dog owners can learn from.
“A responsible pet owner will train and socialize their dogs and, if they do, pit bulls make great pets,” said Biddy. “But if you don’t do that and you don’t have control over your dog of course they’re just going to do what they want.”
Hmm, tell that to all the owners who say they raised their dog from a puppy, as a member of the family inside the home, socialized it, and all those things a good owner does -- and it still 'turns on them' and tries to kill them (this is why I added the 'surprised owner' tag).
