Sheedy Rashid tried to sell a vicious dog which promptly attacked the potential buyer. Judge fails by not sending him to jail.

UNITED KINGDOM -- A Dundee man whose dog “went wild” and bit a potential Gumtree buyer has avoided a jail sentence.

Dundee Sheriff Court previously heard victim Louise Aiton was left with permanent scarring and nerve damage and now feels “physically sick” at the sight of dogs after Sheedy Rashid’s shar pei tried to drag her by the arm in August 2012.

Rashid was today ordered to complete 225 hours of unpaid work and told to pay Mrs Aiton £800 in compensation.

Rashid, 42, of Thurso Crescent, had admitted that his animal bit Louise Aiton to her severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment.

EARLIER:
A woman who went to a Dundee house to see a dog advertised on Gumtree had to punch it to free herself when it “went wild” and attacked her.

Dundee Sheriff Court today heard the would-be seller had only advertised the Shar Pei dog because it had already attacked him and its previous owner’s son.

The court heard the 24-year-old woman was left with permanent scarring and nerve damage and now feels “physically sick” at the sight of dogs after Sheedy Rashid’s dog tried to drag her backwards by the arm.

The court was told Rashid bought the dog in August 2012 from a man who was selling it because it had bitten his young son.

After Rashid suffered his own minor attack his wife contacted the previous owner asking to return the dog.

When that was refused Rashid put the dog up for sale on Gumtree and later that day the woman visited his home to see the animal.

Following the attack, she needed treatment at Ninewells Hospital and has been left with permanent nerve damage and scarring.

Meanwhile, dog wardens were called and the dog was subsequently destroyed.

Rashid, 42, of Thurso Crescent, pleaded guilty to a charge under the Dangerous Dogs Act that his animal bit the woman to her severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment on August 9 2012.

Deferring sentence until January 5, Sheriff Lorna Drummond told Rashid: “It has had severe consequences for the victim. I take a very serious view — you should know that.”
