LOUISIANA -- St. Charles Parish sheriff's deputies are searching for a 37-year-old Killona man accused of throwing a dog against a wall and stomping on it, causing injuries so severe that it had to be euthanized. Authorities say the incident happened Monday (Feb. 16) at a house in Killona.
The dog was taken to Riverlands Animal Hospital in LaPlace for severe head trauma, neck injury and shock. But it was put to death on Wednesday, the Sheriff's Office said.
The Sheriff's Office has obtained an arrest warrant for Rashard Poche and expects to book him with cruelty to animals, said Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, a spokesman for the agency. The dog, a six-pound male Chihuahua, belonged to a relative of Poche, LaGrange said.
Witnesses reported that Poche became angry because he said the dog was barking too much, LaGrange said. "He got upset, which led to the battery on the dog," LaGrange said. "We're actively searching for him and hope he turns himself in."
