'Lucky' the bison visits the front door of a nearby ranch after getting free.

CANADA -- A Dryden couple had a friendly visitor at their front door this morning: a runaway bison from a nearby ranch.

"It came right in the driveway, to our front door," said Sandra Melanson, who lives in Dryden in northwestern Ontario, about 350 kilometres east of Winnipeg.

Melanson said the animal, who’s named "Lucky," has gotten away a few times, but this was the first time the Melansons had encountered a bison at their front door. Lucky is from the Northern Buffalo Ranch, which is down the road from the Melansons.

Melanson said Lucky seemed "very friendly." She tried to enter through the door but stopped when Melanson wouldn’t let her in.

"The neighbours knew who she belonged to and they called the owners, and the owners just came down with a trailer of some sort, called her name, and she just walked right into the trailer," Melanson said.

"The owner said that she does happen to get out once in a while and she’s actually come to visit a few neighbours."
