Matthew Tyler and Deshun Hampton videotaped themselves shooting dog and laughing about it

TENNESSEE -- Three young men were given lengthy prison sentences for a series of robberies, burglaries and shootings in southeast Memphis, said Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich.

Matthew Tyler, 18, was sentenced to 66 years for 12 separate felonies, including the attempted murder of a security guard and the killing of a dog.

Tyler and another defendant, Deshun Hampton, recorded the shootings with a cellphone camera and are shown laughing as they run away.

Deshun Hampton, 18, was sentenced Tuesday to 55 years in prison for 13 separate felonies committed between May 2012 and January 2013.

Deshun Hampton's brother, Devonta Hampton, 20, was sentenced Monday to 32 years in prison for eight felonies, including aggravated robberies, burglaries and using a firearm.

Tyler already is serving an 11-year prison sentenced imposed last year for an aggravated robbery.

Last October he and Deshun Hampton pleaded guilty to multiple charges that include aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and employment of a firearm.

The incidents occurred between June of 2012 and January of 2013 in the area of Kimball and Cherry Road in southeast Memphis. At least eight people were victimized.

On May 24, 2012, at around 4 a.m., a security guard sitting in his vehicle in the Cherry Crest Apartments he heard multiple gunshots and was injured by flying glass that cut his face.

A cellphone video showed Deshun Hampton and Tyler smiling and laughing while firing at the guard's vehicle from a short distance away. They pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder.

On the same video and same date, the two comment about silencing a barking dog behind a fence as Deshun Hampton shoots the pit bull in the neck. The dog cries in pain while the two men run away laughing.

The dog was one of three used for security by a businessman in the 1500 block of Cherry Road. The animal died two days later.

Tyler and Hampton both pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and intentional killing of an animal. An unknown third party made the video recordings.
