VIRGINIA -- A pit bull attacked a 51-year-old Nathalie woman and killed her Jack Russell Terrier as she was walking Monday morning in the 1200 block of Bradley Creek Road.
According to Chief Animal Control Officer Todd Moser, Tracey Roberta Jenson was walking her two dogs at 10:38 a.m. when a pit bull along with another mixed breed dog ran from the woods attacking the woman and one of her dogs.
The pit bull jumped on the Jack Russell Terrier, and bit Jenson as she attempted to separate the two dogs.
Jenson suffered bites to both hands and arms along with a bite to her right thigh.
She was transported to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital emergency room where she was treated for her injuries.
Her pet Jack Russell Terrier did not survive the pit bull attack.
Moser said Animal Control Officer Andre Clauden, the officer who responded to the scene, was unable to identify the owners of either dog.
Neither dog had tags or any identification.
Moser said animal control officers currently are looking for the owners, and the two dogs are being held at the animal control shelter until health department officials decide whether the two dogs should be tested for rabies.
