Scott William Beadles reportedly went into a Petsmart store Jan. 12 to retrieve some of the kennels he uses for animal rescues and told an employee that he had to put the small dog “out of its misery” after it was attacked by his pit bull, according to a Maricopa County sheriff’s deputy’s probable cause statement.

The employee told police that Beadles said the small dog was whimpering and trying to crawl to him when he decided to stomp its head until it was dead, according to the statement.
A woman who was allowing Beadles and his wife to live in a mobile home on her Buckeye property said she found a black trash bag containing the dog’s remains in a trash can at the trailer.
The employee said the Beadles ran Furry Smiles Animal Rescue, and the woman renting the trailer space to the Beadles said they were being evicted and she offered them and their 50 to 60 rescued animals a place to stay, according to the statement.
The woman said she has known the Beadles for a while and has helped them remove and rehome several dogs.
She said the Beadles verbally agreed to care for her animals, too, and that she had a kennel license through Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.
A necropsy on the dog showed it had puncture wounds and several skull fractures.
Beadles was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on one count of felony animal cruelty.
