Video footage shot from a rescue helicopter shows the trio being pulled from an icy stretch of water in Lyndon, with the canine coming out last.
The area was experiencing lows of around -13F so emergency workers had to act quickly. They were helped by a local woman, Nicole Young, who used her kayak on the water.
The dog's owners (one pictured above) were taken to a local hospital where they were listed as being in a stable condition with hypothermic injuries |
She was filmed as she paddled out to get the dog, who is called Lady.
The animal is seen floundering in the water with both paws on the ice to keep her head above the surface.
When she spots the kayak, she immediately swims over and attempts to jump aboard.
Young drags Lady on to the watercraft before making her way back to shore.
There was a rope attached to her kayak, allowing rescue workers to pull it and expedite the journey.
The incident took place around 5pm as the sun was just beginning to set.
Rescuers pulled Lady's owners from the water first.
The couple - who have not been identified - were taken to a local hospital where they were listed as being in a stable condition with hypothermia.
First responders said the woman couldn't stop talking about her dog Lady as she was loaded into the ambulance.
At that time Lady was still trying to get herself out of the pond. After the man and woman were safe from harm, rescuers turned their attention to the dog.
Recalling her dramatic capturing, Young told WLKY News: 'I just paddled over to the dog. She put her paws up there, and I grabbed her collar and then down here she had long fur, and I just got her up on the nose of the boat.'
It's thought Lady was in the water for almost 20 minutes. After she was pulled to dry land, she was bundled up in blankets and taken to a vet.
There is currently no word on the dog's condition.
