Animal cruelty charges for local woman, Karyn Giltner

NEW YORK -- An Orleans County woman faces animal cruelty charges after authorities said she didn’t properly provide for a horse.

In November, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester found several of 34-year-old Karyn Giltner's horses considerably underweight.

In the last four months, authorities say Giltner was successful with some of the horses, but failed to help one of them and has been charged in that case.

“It's serious, especially in this case the horse actually lost weight after her own vet was already treating the horse, which meant that she was not providing the proper care that was needed to get the horse's nutrition up,” said Reno DiDomenico from the Humane Society.

The horse is now in the care of Lollypop Farm.

Giltner faces a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge and could face a year in jail.
