Baton Rouge woman, Amber McManus, booked on animal cruelty after four malnourished dogs found in her home

LOUISIANA -- An 18-year-old woman was arrested after East Baton Rouge Sheriff's deputies found several dogs living in her home that appeared to be malnourished and near death, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The 18-year-old, Amber McManus, was charged with animal cruelty and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The affidavit says deputies went to the McManus' home in the 9600 block of Hooper Road, to serve an arrest warrant. McManus, however, was not home but authorities did see several dogs inside the home that appeared to be suffering from malnutrition.

On Wednesday, sheriff's deputies returned to the home and tried to make contact with someone and check on the dogs, but, again, no one was home. Sheriff's deputies notified Animal Control and an agent was dispatched to the home on Thursday.

Officials saw, through the windows, a couple of the dogs falling over and barley able to walk. The affidavit said a large amount of molded and fresh feces and urine were on the floor throughout the home

After obtaining a search warrant of the home, four dogs were found inside, appearing to have been suffering from significant health issues.

Later on Thursday, McManus contacted authorities and told them she was aware of the deplorable living conditions and that she knew they were not in good health.

McManus' bond has been set at $6,000.
