According to the Sheriff's Office, a deputy was called to Charles Allen's home on San Juan Drive about 9 p.m. Saturday after a witness reported finding the dog dead in a wooded area behind the house.
Allen, 59, was walking out of woods near the intersection of San Juan and Cypress Road. Deputies were told he killed the dog, because (according to him) "the dog bit him several times".
Hmm, maybe the dog bit him when he was beating it and chopping at it with a machete??!
Allen was transported to Flagler Hospital by the deputy, where he was treated and released. He was then booked into the St. Johns County Jail, where he remains on $25,000 bond.
News4Jax spoke to a neighbor who witnessed the killing, along with Allen's family members, who said they wouldn't be bailing him out of jail anytime soon.
"It was just total viciousness," the witness said of the killing. "I looked out my window and I saw the dog just laying on its side."
John Napier, who lives with Allen, said he never wanted to see Allen again and referred to him as "Satan" and his "enemy."
Napier said he raised the 12-year-old Rottweiler.
"He cut my dog's head off -- my dog," Napier said.
Napier said Allen killed the dog in the kitchen before moving the remains to the woods.
"He's done. He's going to prison," one of Allen's family members said. "He's nothing but evil."
