Dog Killed by Deputy After Attacking Gadsden County Woman

FLORIDA -- A Gadsden County woman is at the hospital after being attacked by dogs.

Gadsden County deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call on Ben Bostick Road about 8:35 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015.

When they arrived, they say they found a black female, later identified as 25-year old Sheamika Brown, laying face down on the ground, surrounded by two dogs, one black and one brown.

Deputies say her clothes were shredded, she had visible bite marks and was bleeding.

Deputies say Brown was breathing, however, she was unresponsive. Gadsden EMS arrived and took her to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

According to the police report, one of the witnesses identified Brown as his cousin, and said the brown dog is a family dog that the victim was familiar with, but knew nothing about the black dog other than he has seen him in the area before.

Gadsden County Animal Control was called out to capture both dogs. The brown dog's owner was able to capture him, but the black dog ran off into the woods.

According to the report, Gadsden County Sheriff's Office personnel and Animal Control personnel determined that it would be best to put down the black dog if it couldn't be captured, due to it attacking Brown and it being a high risk to other residents.

The black dog had run under this trailer nearby

One of the deputies fired three shots, killing the dog.

A GCSO Victims Advocate is now offering assistance to Brown. No word on her condition.
