Longview animal control officer rescues dog with jar stuck on head

TEXAS -- A Longview animal control officer was able to help a small dog out of a tight spot today.

Chris Kemper said he received a call from dispatch Monday afternoon about a dog with what appeared to be a jar stuck on her head near Millie Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Kemper found the dog in the area, but she was skittish and would not let him near. So, after a while of trying unsuccessfully to make contact with the dog, he called two other animal control officers, Saylor Knox and Lauren White.

The trio gave up after a while, but Kemper went back Tuesday morning and found the dog, who still had the jar on her heard, in the area.

Kemper said condensation had built up in the jar, which allowed him to sneak up and get a net over her.

Then, once back in his truck, Kemper removed the jar from the canine’s head. He said she turned out to be “a very sweet dog.”

She was taken to the Humane Society of Northeast Texas and given much-needed food and water. Officials there will now try to find her a permanent home.
