Update to story: Pahrump man dies after March pit bull attack
NEVADA --The Nye County Sheriff's Office reported a Pahrump man was arrested Friday following a dog attack that injured three people.
Deputies were called to a home on Black Street about 11:55 a.m. in response to a call concerning the attack.
According to a report from the department, there are two residences on the property. One is occupied by the landowner, and the other a tenant, identified as 40-year-old Ricky Davidson.
Deputies said the land owner has cats that a neighbor helps feed. Davidson has three pit bulls, which were kept behind a six-foot fence.
Deputies said the neighbor came over to feed the cats. Upon approaching, the pit bulls jumped the fence and attacked the man. When he screamed, a friend ran to help him. The second man was attacked as well and received serious injuries. A third man arrived, and he was also attacked.
The two men who arrived to help managed to drag the neighbor away and close the gate; however, the dogs found a hole in the fence and continued the attack.
One of the men was able to get a gun and shot two of the dogs. The dogs continued attacking, however.
Deputies said members of Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene, and the ambulances scared the dogs off.
The first victim was flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, where he was last listed in critical condition. The other two men were treated for their injuries at Desert View Hospital.
Davidson was booked into Nye County Detention Center and faces charges of keeping vicious dogs, resulting in substantial bodily harm.
Deputies said an investigation revealed his dogs had attacked another person about eight months ago.
One of the dogs was euthanized because a bullet pierced its lungs. The other two dogs will be quarantined. The second dog that was shot sustained injuries to the shoulder and did not need to be euthanized.
