Pit bull attacks Newaygo Co. deputy

MICHIGAN -- A Newaygo County Sheriff's deputy was treated and released from the hospital after being attacked by a pit bull while responding to a call.

It happened around 6 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 2800 block of Third Street, north of White Cloud.

The sheriff's department says the deputy was investigating a trespassing complaint and knocked on a door. A small child opened it and two dogs came running out. The pit bull repeatedly bit the officer's hand before another dog began attacking the pit bull, allowing the deputy to escape.

The deputy was treated for puncture wounds to the hand. The pit bull is being quarantined at the Newaygo County Animal Shelter.
