Police say woman, Alyssa Contreras, suspected of drunken driving threw her dog out of car window during pursuit

CALIFORNIA -- A 22-year-old woman suspected of drunken driving threw a dog out of her car window while she was pursued by Cypress officers Wednesday night, police said.

Alyssa Contreras refused to pull over for a Cypress patrol officer shortly after 9:30 p.m. on West Cerritos Avenue near Knott Avenue, police Sgt. Dean Pinvidic said.

Contreras sped down West Cerritos Avenue in a 2006 gray Scion, reaching speeds as high as 68 mph, police said.

About three miles into the pursuit, she apparently threw a dog out of the driver's side window after crossing the Anaheim city border before crashing into a parked Nissan Altima near South Nutwood Street.

"The dog got up and ran away and animal control attempted to find it, but they didn't find blood on the ground or the dog," Pinvidic said.

Officials did not have a description of the dog since they were unable to find it.

Contreras was arrested on suspicion of driving intoxicated, felony evading and felony cruelty to animals.
